This week when we met to discuss your blog I asked that each of you add the "Subscription Links" gadget to your blog. Most of you have already done this but about half have not. The Subscription Links gadget provides an easy way for you to keep up with everyones blogs by subscribing to their RSS feed. I've spent the last hour adding all of you to my Google reader (RSS reader) and I have to say I'm pleased with how easy it was to setup. If you have a google account or someone other than google I'd recommend subscribing to all of your fellow classmates blogs.

SEPTEMBER 18th 2009 ASBURY PARK - Opening night of Danny Clinch's exhibit on Bruce Springsteen starting September 18 through the 27th. "Be True" focuses on Bruce's New Jersey years from 1999 to 2009. The exhibit was held at the Third Ave Pavilion in Asbury Park New Jersey.

This was an amazing opening consisting of dozens of SCAD ATL students curated by Judith Pishnery. The event took place at Atlantic station for one night only! While I was there I ran into none other than Demetrius Freeman from Gwinnett Technical College! It was good seeing so many people for a one day gallery show.

And Vincent says that not only does this camera take us a bunch of steps up from the original (and from the 5D2), it is a “paradigm shift” because of the low light capabilities of the Canon EOS-1D MKIV… “I think it’s safe to say that every single filmmaker and photographer has always dreamed of cameras that can see what our naked eyes can see. This time these cameras can actually see more. One D and four Marks

New Canon 1D Mark IV was made official this morning with an official press release from the fellas themselves. The camera boasts all the expected upgrades like HD video updated Digic 4 processors and an extreme ISO of 102,400 (which I believe gives the photographer the ability to take pictures in the dark. Like super dark. Like stuff that not even your own eye can see). Who's looking forward to the folks over at Fuji announcing their new ISO 1 billion next week?

David Strohl talk at SPE: Southeast

Yesterday I attended a very informative lecture by commercial photographer David Strohl. The lecture's title was "Tips On Survival: How to get started in the world of editorial and commercial Photogrpahy". Strohl was hitting on points that all students should be aware of.
Here are a few:
- You HAVE to work hard
- You HAVE to know how to do everything (retouching, lighting, networking, PR, editing and digital delivery of files)
- There are no excuses (my favorite)
- People suck
- Always have an assistant

iMovie Advice

As you may have already figured out iMovie can be rather unstable at times. After the last two multimedia II classes there are a few words of advice I'd like to offer the students. First off Save frequently (but not too frequently). I've found that if iMovie is going to crash on you it's usually when you're adding visual effects or titles so be sure to save before executing such actions. The problem is, if you save you can't undo to a point before the save. So my point is to save frequently but not after every little adjustment you make in your video. Secondly be prepared for iMovie to crash. That's just the way it is. Welcome to life with computers. Now go out and have some fun making videos.

If keeping it simple is the name of the game (or at least mine) RED is in severe violation. The new camera titled Scarlet from RED is what's called a DSMC (Digital Still and Motion Camera) and with over 2 Quadrillion variations I can't even begin to wrap my brain around this camera. With the over abundance of options and the super expensive price tag my patience with this camera is slim to none. But if you're a gear head you might want to check out the RED web site to brush up on the specs so that you can receive your photo dork badge at the next photo expo.

I made the dive today and finally upgraded my RAM for my laptop. Anyone who owns a Mac knows that if you buy the RAM from them you're going to be paying out the wazoo. Luckily the people over at Crucial offer some great deals on RAM. Not only are they cheap but they make it super easy to find the right RAM for your computer. I just purchased 4GB (2x2GB sticks) for $55.00! That's about $150 less than I would have payed if I had bought it from Apple. So Apple thanks for your well polished super awesome sexy products but RAMs RAM and I'm going elsewhere to buy it. If you're looking for a preformance boost in your Mac I highly recomend Crucial the memory experts.

Tonight history was made. I've participated in three elections in my life and never before have I experienced elections results like I have tonight. In my apartment complex I've heard people running down the halls crying, yelling and overall just celebrating. Out of all three of my elections I've never once heard people as exuberant as what I'm hearing now. With this election being as big as it is I can't help but reflect on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s World House essay. If you haven't read it I'd recommend you take the time and do so now. we all had issues iin class posting from Flickr yesterday in class. I went home and I think I have figured it out. So here is what I did:
1. In Flickr I clicked on Share then copied the embedded content
2. In Bloger I created a new post and then selected "edit Html" rather than Compose.
3. I then pasted the embedded content.
4. Switched back to "Compose" and whola my image appeared.
Hopefully this will work for all of you as well.

This weekend we had another meeting about our video project that will part of the Le Flash project taking place next week. After running into numerous problems we've had to scrap the billboard idea (see previous post) and instead we've decided to build a projection screen. Our plan is to build the screen atop of the incline in the parking lot. Above is a photo of where the screen will be going. For more about Le Flash check out Art Relish's article about the event.
